WITH SNI CERTIFICATION

SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia / Indonesia National Standard) is the only standard that applies nationally in Republic of Indonesia

In order to increase the development of SNI, the government stipulates Government Regulation No. 102 Year 2000 regarding National Standardization. On September 14th, 2014, Law No. 20 Year 2014 regarding Standardization and Conformity Assessment was established.

SNI is formulated by the Technical Committee (formerly known as the Technical Committee) and determined by the National Standardization Body (Badan Standarisasi Nasional / BSN), which is a Non-Ministerial Government Institution (Lembaga Pemerintah Non Kementerian / LPNK) tasked with fostering, developing and coordinating activities in the field of standardization nationally in the Republic of Indonesia. The standards regulated in SNI include management system standards, process/method standards and product standards.

Products that have been certified by SNI are affixed with the SNI Marks as a statement that the product meets the referred SNI requirements. The SNI Marks must be placed in a place that is easily visible in such a size that it is easy to read, not easily damaged and can still be recognized while the product is being used. The size of the SNI Marks is stated in the following terms:

Notes:
y = 11x
r = 0,5x

Other requirements related to SNI Marks can be seen in Regulation of Head of BSN No. 2 Year 2017 regarding Procedures for Using SNI Marks and SNI-Based Conformity Marks.

Basically, the implementation of SNI is voluntary. Thus, to ensure widespread acceptance and use of SNI, the application of norms – openness to all stakeholders, transparent and impartial, and in line with developments in international standards – is a very important factor. However, for the purposes of protecting public interests, state security, national economic development, and preserving environmental functions, the Indonesian government has enforced certain SNI to be mandatory implemented.

MANDATORY SNI

The implementation of mandatory SNI must be carried out through the issuance of technical regulations by government agencies that have the authority to regulate activities and product distribution (regulators). In this case, activities and products that do not meet the requirements of technical regulations are prohibited. Violations of these technical regulations can result in business actors being subject to sanctions by the regulator in the form of product withdrawal from circulation, product destruction and even imprisonment and/or fines.

Fulfillment of mandatory SNI requirements is proven by ownership of an SNI Certificate issued by a Certification Body (Lembaga Sertifikasi Produk / LSPro) which has received an appointment or assignment from a regulator that issues technical regulations related to the appropriate scope. Upon the implementation of these technical regulations, business actors are required to include the SNI Mark and other conformity marks (if required) on products traded in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. To be able to include the SNI Mark, business actors must first obtain approval letter for the use of the SNI Mark (sub-license agreement). Procedures for obtaining approval are regulated in the relevant technical regulations.

Apart from affixing the SNI Mark and other conformity marks, businessmen must also affix the Product Registration Number (Nomor Pendaftaran Barang / NPB) to products for which the SNI implementation is mandatory. The procedures for obtaining NPB and the conditions for affixing it are regulated in regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.

VOLUNTARY SNI

Fulfillment of voluntary SNI requirements is proven by ownership of an SNI Certificate issued by LSPro which has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Body (Komite Akreditasi Nasional / KAN) with the appropriate scope. Due to the implementation of these technical regulations, businessmen are required to include the SNI Mark on products traded in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. To be able to include the SNI Mark, businessmen must obtain approval letter for the use of the SNI Mark called Surat Persetujuan Penggunaan Tanda SNI / SPPT SNI (license agreement) from BSN. The procedures for obtaining SPPT SNI are regulated in Head of BSN Regulation No. 2 Year 2017 regarding Procedures for Using SNI Marks and SNI-Based Conformity Marks.
